ABOUT US

Our Journey: Championing the Needs of the UK Malayalee Diaspora for Over Five Decades

The Malayalee Association of the UK (M.A.U.K.) stands as the first, and one of the most prominent, Malayalee community organisations in the United Kingdom. Our history can be traced back to the late 1920s, when the distinguished Shri V. K. Krishna Menon initiated student gatherings that would later inspire the formation of Kerala Samajam in the 1960s. This evolving movement culminated in the registration of the Malayalee Association of the UK (M.A.U.K.) in 1974 as a Friendly Society.

Based in Manor Park, East London, M.A.U.K. has grown into a leading charitable organisation, dedicated to serving the diverse and evolving needs of the UK’s Malayalee diaspora. For over five decades, we have worked tirelessly to promote Kerala’s arts, culture, literature and heritage across the UK, while also supporting humanitarian and charitable causes both in the UK and in Kerala.

Today, M.A.U.K. offers a broad spectrum of community services and cultural programmes, including:

• A dedicated Elders Centre, complete with a lunch club and tailored activities for elderly women.
• Outings and social events designed to enhance wellbeing and reduce isolation among older members.
• A befriending service supporting those who are housebound or vulnerable.
• Classes and workshops in music, dance, Malayalam language, academic support, and personal development.
• Cultural celebrations and social gatherings that foster intergenerational understanding and community cohesion.
• Educational campaigns that promote equality, British values, and active citizenship.
• Charitable initiatives to alleviate poverty and food insecurity within the local community.

With over 500 family memberships, M.A.U.K. is proud to be the largest apolitical, non-religious, service-oriented Malayalee community organisation in the UK.

Our legacy continues to be built on the pillars of unity, inclusivity, cultural pride and dedicated service.
